Winter Cropping Underway

NoTillAus

Its been a busy couple of months in preparation for winter broadacre cropping and also managing soils across many horticultural regions. Winter broadacre cropping is ‘rule of thumb’ targeted for Anzac Day (25th March). The opening rains in many areas in early March have led this to follow relatively true in many areas around the Country. With warm soil temperatures and adequate soil moisture the germination is shaping up well for this season. However in many areas, follow up rains are in need to ensure all crops get away to a good start. With reports being rumoured of potentially a dryer Spring again, we are all looking for sound winter rainfall to head into the Spring period with adequate reserve of soil moisture in the profile. Looking forward to seeing the progress of this years winter cropping season with many soil pits and Soil Expeditions around the Country!
