Strip Tillage Leading to Improved Soil Properties

“The blades on a till don’t simply chop up soil and move it around. They blend dead plant material left from harvest into the soil. They also expose wetter soil to the air and loosen it”.

Deciding what level of tillage is right for your farm can be a difficult process. A recent 5 year study has shown that strip tillage decreases bulk density, and penetration resistance also decreases. Over the 5 years there was no significant change in aggregate stability or infiltration rate.

The most suitable location for strip tillage is locations where crop residue is high, with cool, wet springs.
