This recent paper does an excellent job of explaining the ‘domestication’ of soils over the past 200 years. A follow on from the previous article, it covers the global exploitation of soil, along with soils role in Climate Change, and the intimate relationship soil has with many factors determining life on earth. This paper also discusses how we are going to have to adapt in the future in relation to diminishing supplies of P and K, along with the energy required to form synthetic N becoming harder to source. A very interesting read!
