For the first time ever, a global ‘Digital Soil Morphometrics’ conference is being held. It will be held on the 1-4 of June in the United States. Digital morphometrics (morphometry meaning the measurement of size and shape) has the potential to play an important role in the future of agriculture, taking soil pit information to a far more technical level. This digital form of analysis will allow certain features and attributes of soil pits unseen by the naked eye, to be viewed and acted upon accordingly. The image above shows a map of the Iron content of a soil profile. This is where “variable rate” agriculture meets “vertical rate” soil assessment. Powerful combination indeed.
