Welcome back to another week of Soil Expedition.
The last week has seen some soil investigations being conducted on some very interesting soil types. We have been deep in to profiles on flood plains with deep alluvial soils to hard setting sodic (high sodium) soils.
We have seen some interesting soil profile characteristics such as clay capped columns (solonetz) forming well down in to the profile. Each soil has shown limitations that are affecting crop and pasture performance, but each soil in its own right has marked potential to perform and function to a greater level of soil use efficiency.
